How to Play Mega Millions in New Jersey
If you want to know how to play for life-changing amounts of money then you've come to the right place. This page is dedicated to showing you exactly how Mega Millions is played, so you can get involved in the next draw.
Be sure to purchase your tickets before the sales cutoff time: 10:00PM ET on Tuesdays and Fridays. You can play online or at a local lottery retailer so make sure you read up on how to play below:
Select your numbers
The first step is to choose the numbers you're going to play. You'll need to pick five different numbers from 1 to 70 on your playslip as well as one Mega Ball number between 1 and 24 (which can be the same as one of your main numbers). You can make this step a lot quicker by using our Number Generator which will instantly pick a random selection of numbers for you. You can also play multiple sets of numbers for one draw.
Discover the Multiplier
This feature will increase any non-jackpot prizes you win by the value of the Multiplier, which comes up randomly as part of the draw - it can be X2, X3, X4, X5 or X10. The Multiplier applies to all non-jackpot prizes! You can check the Multiplier weightings on our Odds and Prizes page.
- 2X Multiplier - 1 in 2.3 chance
- 3X Multiplier - 1 in 3.2 chance
- 4X Multiplier - 1 in 8 chance
- 5X Multiplier - 1 in 16 chance
- 10X Multiplier - 1 in 32 chance
Choose How Many Draws to Play
This option is for those who want to play multiple draws but don’t want to purchase a ticket before each one. You can play up to eight consecutive draws without having to worry about choosing any more numbers for a while. Just make sure to use our Number Checker which will show you if you have won a prize in any of these draws.
Purchase your ticket
Each Mega Millions play costs $5, which automatically includes the Multiplier option. The total cost of a ticket will depend on how many draws you entered into and the amount of sets you picked per draw.
How to Win Mega Millions
You win the top prize in Mega Millions by matching all five of your main numbers as well as your Mega Ball number. You can win several smaller prizes depending on how many numbers you matched. The Multiplier feature, if drawn will also multiply these prizes – but not the Jackpot. Get a full breakdown on what you can win in Mega Millions on our Odds and Prizes page
