Pick 3 Odds and Prizes

Pick 3 combines exciting prizes with favorable odds, and you can decide whether to play a bet type with bigger payout, or one with a better chance to win. Each bet type has its own fixed prize, proportional to how much you wager. If your stake is $1, for example, you would receive twice as much as if you had paid $0.50.

To win a prize, you must match all your chosen numbers according to the requirements of your bet type. A Straight wager, for instance, must match all three digits in exact order, whereas a Box wager can match in any order. You can wager up to $5 per play in NJ Pick 3, so just multiply the prize amounts to find out your potential winnings if you’ve staked more than $1.

All the prizes are fixed, so you're guaranteed to receive the full amount even if there are multiple winners. However, the New Jersey Lottery does have a limit, known as a prize liability, to ensure that all winners can receive their full prize. This means that sales for particular three-digit combinations can sometimes be suspended if those numbers have proved so popular that it would not be possible to pay out any more winners.

Using the Fireball

You can also add the Fireball option to any bet type to increase your chances to win. The Fireball number is a fourth digit from 0 to 9 that is drawn after the first three. This Fireball number can replace any of the others to create a new combination.

For example, if the numbers drawn are 123 and the Fireball is a 7, this makes three new Fireball combinations – 127 (where the Fireball replaces the 3), 173 (Fireball replaces the 2) and 723 (Fireball replaces the 1). This significantly boosts your chances of winning.

Instant Match Prizes & Odds

If you add Instant Match for an extra $1 per play, three random numbers will be generated and printed on the lower portion of your ticket. Each one will have a prize value associated to it. If any of the Instant Match numbers are the same as the Pick 3 numbers you have selected, you win the payout shown on your ticket. The table below shows the prizes you can win and the odds for each one.

Claiming Prizes
