Powerball Odds and Prizes
The Powerball jackpot starts at $20 million and rolls every time it is not won, so it can quickly build up to nine or even 10 figures. It even reached $2 billion in November 2022.
While you have to match all five main numbers and the Powerball to land the jackpot, you can also win with fewer matches. In fact, there’s a $4 payout just for getting the Powerball on its own.
All the prizes are fixed values apart from the jackpot, which is split if there are multiple winners. The table below shows all the prize categories, the odds of winning for each one, and how much is on offer.
Numbers Matched | Odds of Winning | Prize |
---|---|---|
5 + Powerball | 1 in 292,201,338 | Jackpot |

Power Play Prizes
If you add the Power Play option to your ticket, any non-jackpot prize you win will be increased. A multiplier is selected at random - either 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x - and payouts are boosted by the value of that multiplier. The exception is the Match 5 prize, which is always doubled to $2 million irrespective of the Power Play multiplier.
See the table below for all the prizes you can win with Power Play.

Double Play Odds and Prizes
You can also play Powerball Double Play in New Jersey, where your numbers are entered into a separate draw that takes place on the same night. Again, five main numbers are drawn from 1 to 69, plus a Powerball number between 1 and 26. You can win prizes in all the same ways, from matching just the Powerball to getting all six numbers.
The odds of winning are therefore exactly the same as for the main draw, but the payouts are actually worth more in most of the prize levels. However, the jackpot in Double Play is fixed, unlike the main game – it will always be valued at $10 million for every draw. Find out all the Double Play prizes and odds in this table.
